What does Global Learning mean?
The idea of Global Learning is composed of several components that have to be seen in a holistic context. The UNESCO for instances states:
“The basic vision of the Decade for Education for Sustainable Development is a world where everyone has the opportunity to benefit from education and learn the values, behavior and lifestyles required for a sustainable future and for positive societal transformation.”
Indian-German School twinning
It is an experiment, both for the Kids-School in Tirupur and the Friedrich-Ebert-Gymnasium (FEG) in the city of Bonn. A cross-continental and –cultural school twinning is the result that were most pleasant for Ms Beate Schlömer, teacher at the FEG. For this reason, five curious young ladies will break new ground when they are going to visit Kids school in Tirupur at the end of February to get to know the school and to start a dialogue with the students as well as the teachers. With the background to start a global learning process, Nicola, Sina, Luzie, Talisa and Freya from the FEG will also write a research paper to address the question, how to create both sustainable education and an inspiring exchange.
Students´ motivation:
“First of all, I was just curious and wanted to participate in the project simply out of thirst for adventure. After seeing the movie, my idea about the trip became more specific: I hope to represent my school (FEG in Bonn), get to know the Indian school and be part of a cultural exchange. I´d furthermore like to learn more about the effects of a sponsoring programme like the Migros´. I also want to see how the locals think about this project. Hopefully we can develop a school twinning with the Indian school during our visit.” Talisa Vallenas Coronnel, 17 years
“I want to travel to India to experience a complete new culture and to meet people, especially those in our age, to see what their lives look like. Moreover I hope we can also give them an understanding of our culture thus a school twinning with the Kids-Migros-Matriculation-school can be developed. This would allow many students of the FEG in the coming years to participate in a student exchange with India. Such a co-operation would be enrichment for both the German and the Indian students.” Luzie Ody, 18 years
Beginning in March 2009 the students and teachers of both schools will place their impressions and experiences at this page.
